Lakes & Valleys
7 night guided walking holiday
- 7 night guided walking holiday
- Grade 1: relaxed walking
- 2* family-run Hotel Almud
Discover stunning secluded spots among the mountain lakes and green valleys of the Pyrenees. Expect spectacular views of high peaks, clear mountain streams and the valleys to ourselves as we show you some of the regions hidden treasures.
Our Lakes & Valleys holiday is ideal for those that prefer more relaxed days in the mountains with the emphasis on finding quiet beautiful spots with breathtaking scenery rather than scaling high peaks.
The holiday is based at the excellent four star Hotel Tierra de Biescas which has excellent facilities including a sauna and an indoor and outdoor pool.
An ideal holiday for nature lovers with walks passing through meadows full of orchids, gentians, lilies and alpine flora. A number of the walks will pass through sites of historic interest such as the tenth century monastery of San Juan de la Peña.
You will stay in the family-run Hotel Almud in Sallent de Gállego – an ideal base from which to reach the higher reaches of the Valle de Tena. A small hotel with just 11 rooms all beautifully converted with en-suite bathrooms. Three course evening meals are taken at restaurant Casa Jaimico which is just 100 metres from the hotel each night apart from the rest day when we will visit Jaca and eat at one of the excellent restaurants or tapas bars. Sunday – Biescas
Arrive in Biescas from Zaragoza late evening. Short briefing to talk about throught the week and answer any questions you have.
Monday – Ibon de Piedrafita
Nestled in the meadows under the cliffs of the Sierra de Partacua lies the Ibon de Piedrafita. A gentle climb takes us out of the woodland for superb views across the Valle de Tena.
Tuesday – San Juan de la Peña
The cliffs around San Juan de la Peña are home to colonies of griffon vultures. A beautiful ridge walk above the cliffs gives us a great opportunity to see these huge birds up close and enjoy superb vistas across the Pyrenees. This walk can be combined with a visit to the fascinating medieval monastery complex of San Juan de la Peña.
Wednesday – Valle de Ordesa
The sheer cliffs of the Valle de Ordesa are an undisputable highlight of the Pyrenees. As you follow the Río Arazas you’ll pass waterfalls and rock pools before the woodland gives way to spectacular views of the surrounding cliffs and the 3000m peak of Monte Perdido towering above you.
Thursday – Rest day
Spend a relaxing day in Biescas, or visit one of the nearby attractions such as the Parque Faunistico that has native fauna such as wolves, lynx and bison. In the evening we’ll visit the local town of Jaca for vino and tapas.
Friday – Villages of the Serrablo
A walk linking the medieval villages of the Serrablo. These pretty villages are famous for their 11th century romanesque churches. We walk through gentle woodland with views up the Valle de Tena and have a picnic lunch at the semi abandoned village of Susín which has just one remaining inhabitant!
Saturday – Punta del Pacino
A beautiful ascent through woodland and meadows to the peak of Punta del Pacino. Its position at the centre of the valley gives fabulous panoramic views of the Valle De Tena and surrounding peaks.

Here’s feedback from guests on our Valle de Tena Explorer guided walking holiday. Thanks to everyone that has sent feedback – if you’ve not mailed us any comments yet please do and we’ll add them.
We went on an early season guided hike tour with dairly hikes from Biescas. Our expectations were definitely exceeded. We had lots of rain during the week, but Hike Pyrenees adjusted each day’s activity to find the best weather and to meet our interests and abilities. Our guide for the week – Olatz – was outstanding. This is a first-class operation in a beautiful part of Spain. Highly recommended.
