Car rental from Zaragoza airport or train station
There are two main places to hire a car in Zaragoza – Delicias train/bus station or the airport. Both have Car rental Zaragoza National/Atesa, Europcar and Avis car hire offices and Hertz have an office just at the arport.
We usually tend to find National/Atesa and Europcar the cheapest but prices change all of the time so shop around. Prices are roughly 200-250€ for a week for a small car but this varies greatly with demand, exactly what time of year and how far in advance you book.
We’d definitely recommend booking your car in advance. You usually get a better price booking and paying in advance. Also none of these offices are that big and have a limited pool of vehicles and at busy times have no available cars to hire if you just turn up at the office. You can either book directly with the hire car company or through a host of ‘car hire supermarket’ type sites – sometimes these can be cheaper but personally I always prefer to book direct with the rental company.
Car rental from Zaragoza Delicias train station
Delicias is the main train and bus station in Zaragoza and is quite an impressive looking big station. If you’re taking the AVE fast train from Barcelona or Madrid or a long distance bus this is where you’ll arrive and depart from.
Renting a car at Zaragoza Delicias is very easy. National/Atesa, Europcar and Avis have offices in the train station with good opening hours. We’ve found all of the offices to be helpful and most of the staff speak good English. Occasionally you may find the office closed with a sign on the door – the staff are usually checking a car in the car park and will return in a few minutes.
Cars are kept in the stations underground car park and it’s easy to drive out of the car park. The car hire company will give you a car parking ticket which you’ll need to validate (but not pay for) at the car park office before leaving the car park.
The station is near to the ring road and the signposts are easy to follow. If you’re heading up to the Pyrenees you need to follow the signs to Huesca which is well signposted. It’s approximately a 2 hour drive from Zaragoza to Biescas, Sallent de Gallego or Torla.
The opening hours and phone numbers of the offices at the time of writing (but please check that the opening times are still the same when you book) are as follows:

This office is in the underground car park on level -2 of the train station (not with the other hire car company offices on the ground floor)

Car rental from Zaragoza airport
National/Atesa, Europcar, Avis and Hertz have offices at Zaragoza airport. The airport is small and the offices are directly opposite the arrivals area and easy to find. The cars are parked directly outside the terminal building and you can easily walk to your car.
Take no notice of the opening hours of any of the car hire companies at the airport. They only open when a flight arrives (about 5 a day at Zaragoza) and if they have no reservations from that flight often don’t open at all. This is the reason that we only recommend renting a car at the airport if you’re arriving on a flight and not if you’re staying in the city centre and then want to rent a car – once we drove to the airport to pick up an additional van and had to wait two hours for the next flight to arrive and the office to open!
The flight from London Stansted arrives quite late and is outside the opening hours stated on the website – we’ve never known people having problems with the offices being closed when they arrive as long as they’ve reserved a car in advance.
The contact details for the airport car offices are as follows:
Hertz: +34 976 712 404 / +34 976 712 429, website: UK USA Spain
OK Rent a car: +34 902 360 636, website: UK USA Spain
Car rental from Zaragoza city centre
If you’re staying in Zaragoza a few nights and then renting a car we would advice renting from Delicias train station. Although several hire companies still list offices in the city centre quite a few of these have actually closed and moved to the train station when it opened so double check if a website offers you the option of a city centre office! The train station is a short taxi ride from the city centre (approx. 20 euros fare from most hotels). Also it is much easier to navigate from the train station than it is to negotiate the myriad of one way systems and poor signage in the city centre.
