We get you straight to the best hikes and know not just the famous walks but many beautiful quiet paths often overlooked by many visitors.

Ordesa was made a UNESCO world heritage site in 1997 mainly due to its bio-diversity. The steep cliffs lead to an altitude change of two kilometres between the valley meadows and the oeaks high above.
These differences mean a huge variety of flowers, birds and mammals can find their impact on the inhospitable higher plateaus.
The UNESCO site is jointly managed with the French Parc National de Pyrenees.

Itinerary

We’ve route descriptions for dozens of walks in the area. There is a huge range of options from short strolls to long days in the high mountains. Here’s a few suggestions - we’ve many more waiting for you!

Camino de Turieto - grade 1

A superb introduction to the park. Starting straight from the hotel you cross the Rio Ara passing through woodland and alongside a series of waterfalls and head into the Ordesa Valley.

Valle de Otal - grade 1

A wonderful hanging valley with waterfalls, flower filled meadows, and great views.

Ordesa Valley - valley floor - grade 2

Follow the Rio Arazas past waterfalls and rockpools with the sheer cliffs of Ordesa towering above you. The path starts in woodland leading into meadows with spectacular views of Monte Perdido standing at the head of the valley.

Ordesa Valley - Faja Racon - grade 2

A route passing directly under the northern cliffs of the valley. You really get a sense of the scale of the cliffs once you are standing in touching distance of them. The quietest route in the valley but absolutely stunning.

The Añisclo Canyon - grade 2

Another of the park’s spectacular valleys. Waterfalls cascade down the steep cliffs as you follow the Rio Bellos along the valley floor. Beautiful woodland and a good place to spot griffon vultures and lammergeiers.

Ordesa Valley - Faja de Pelay - grade 3

A steep climb rewarded with a bird’s eye view of the valley. A superb path then contours around the cliffs before dropping to the valley floor - highly recommended hike with views of the Breche de Roland and Monte Perdido.

Walking Faja de las flores Ordesa National Park Faja de las Flores

Plana Cuasta - grade 3

Another walk straight from the hotel. A steep climb through woodland into alpine meadows leading to a viewpoint with spectacular views straight down the Ordesa Valley.

Ordesa Valley - Faja de las Flores - grade 4

One of the most spectacular paths in Europe is the Faja de las Flores, where a narrow balcony is cut into the sheer cliffs of the Ordesa valley, offering breathtaking views of Mount Perdido and the valley floor a dizzying kilometre below.

Walking Levels & Logistics

When is the best time to hike the Ordesa self-guided itinerary?

the Ordesa self-guided itinerary is at its best from late-May to mid-October.

• May and June offer lush meadows and cooler temperatures.

• July and August bring warm, settled weather and long days.

• September and October are a favourite for many walkers — quieter trails and clear, stable conditions.

Snow can linger on the highest passes in early season, but we’ll advise you on conditions.

Are the routes easy to follow?

Yes. Our route descriptions are detailed and in general the paths are easy to follow. In a couple of places the paths aren't so clear but we highlight these spots in the route notes so that you can take extra care. We also provide GPS tracks for all of the routes. These can be used with a GPS application on your phone and are a brilliant aid to navigation.

I've read that you provide Garmin InReach Satellite Communicators, what do they do?

A Garmin InReach is a small, tough satellite communicator that lets you stay in touch even when you’re out of mobile coverage. It uses the Iridium satellite network to send and receive messages, share your location, and trigger an SOS in an emergency. It’s a useful bit of kit for remote mountain areas where phone signal can’t be relied on. We provide these to every self-guided group.

Do the routes get into the high mountains or do the trails stay in the valley floor?

The harder options get into steep high mountain terrain and in no way stick to the valley floor. The longest days are over 20km with over 1000 metres ascent. We have dozens of route cards for this trip, so there's plenty of flexibility. If you prefer to stick to the easier routes, are tired one day or the weather is bad you can stick to the easier routes that stay lower in the valley.

Will I be hiking with other hikers?

This is a self-guided itinerary and although other hikers may start on the same day as you (particularly if you arrive on a Sunday), this isn't guaranteed. Some of the days follow routes where you won't meet many other hikers during the day and you need to be comfortable hiking and navigating on your own.

Could we add a night in a mountain hut?

Yes, you can book to stay in Refugio Goriz, depending on availability. Please ask us for further information." target="_blank" rel="noopener">here

Booking & Practicalities

Do I need travel insurance?

Yes - insurance to cover accidents in the mountains and illness is compulsory. The insurance must cover mountainous terrain and hiking. We also recommend general travel insurance to cover flight delays, lost luggage and for cover if you need to cancel your trip due to injury/illness before you travel.

What is your cancellation policy?

If you need to cancel your trip, the deposit of 125€ per person is non-refundable. If you have paid your balance and cancel with 7 weeks notice or more, we will refund 50%. If you cancel with less than 7 weeks notice, no refund will be made. Remember, most travel insurances will cover this cost if you need to cancel due to injury.

Can I extend my stay?

Yes — let us know when booking and we can help arrange extra nights either in Torla or in Zaragoza, which is a lovely city to visit with lots to see and a fascinating history.

Wonderful holiday, excellent organisation and beautiful varied walking. It was very reassuring to know that the briefing, cards were so well written and accurate in their timings.
