Discover stunning secluded spots among the mountain lakes and green valleys of the Pyrenees. Expect spectacular views of high peaks, clear mountain streams and the valleys to ourselves as we show you some of the regions hidden treasures.
Our Lakes & Valleys holiday is ideal for those that prefer more relaxed days in the mountains with the emphasis on finding quiet beautiful spots with breathtaking scenery rather than scaling high peaks.
The holiday is based at the excellent four star Hotel Tierra de Biescas which has excellent facilities including a sauna and an indoor and outdoor pool.
An ideal holiday for nature lovers with walks passing through meadows full of orchids, gentians, lilies and alpine flora. A number of the walks will pass through sites of historic interest such as the tenth century monastery of San Juan de la Peña.
“We have had a fabulous holiday. We have thoroughly enjoyed the walks which were just right for our ability. Our enjoyment was enhanced by Phil & Hannah’s knowledge of the flora and fauna. P.s. Anna’s pack lunches were amazing!” Marie and Howard
Grade 1 walking
Walks: 5 to 7 hours
Walks are at a relaxed pace with plenty of time to take in the
views, take photos and enjoy surroundings -
Ascents: 350m to 600m
Ascents are not steep or sustained.
Paths: Good paths
All of the walks will be on good paths or on meadows with only short
rocky sections.
During the week we visit several of the most beautiful areas in the region, each with their own charm. One day will be spent exploring the dramatic scenery of the Ordesa National Park.
This is a sample itinerary -
Sunday -
Arrive in Biescas from Zaragoza late evening. Short briefing over a generous helping of Serrano ham, baguettes and wine.
Monday -
Nestled in the meadows under the cliffs of the Sierra de Partacua lies the Ibon de Piedrafita. A gentle climb takes us out of the woodland for superb views across the Valle de Tena.
Tuesday -
The cliffs around San Juan de la Peña are home to colonies of griffon vultures. A beautiful ridge walk above the cliffs gives us a great opportunity to see these huge birds up close and enjoy superb vistas across the Pyrenees. This walk can be combined with a visit to the fascinating medieval monastery complex of San Juan de la Peña.
Wednesday -
The sheer cliffs of the Valle de Ordesa are an undisputable highlight of the Pyrenees. As you follow the Río Arazas you'll pass waterfalls and rock pools before the woodland gives way to spectacular views of the surrounding cliffs and the 3000m peak of Monte Perdido towering above you.
Thursday -
Spend a relaxing day in Biescas, or visit one of the nearby attractions such as the Parque Faunistico that has native fauna such as wolves, lynx and bison. In the evening we’ll visit the local town of Jaca for vino and tapas.
Friday -
A walk linking the medieval villages of the Serrablo. These pretty villages are famous for their 11th century romanesque churches. We walk through gentle woodland with views up the Valle de Tena and have a picnic lunch at the semi abandoned village of Susín which has just one remaining inhabitant!
Saturday -
A beautiful ascent through woodland and meadows to the peak of Punta del Pacino. Its position at the centre of the valley gives fabulous panoramic views of the Valle De Tena and surrounding peaks.
Sunday
Free morning in Biescas before leaving mid-

We had a wonderful week walking the ‘Lakes & Valleys’. We are glad we chose the guided
walks as we met new friends and learnt a lot more about the area than doing the walks
alone. The walks were varied and provided tailored challenges. Many thanks to Phil,
Anna and Hannah for a wonderful week of walking -
Excellent holiday. Good walking in wonderful scenery. Phil was a very knowledgeable
and informative guide. A very relaxing week.

Having never considered guided walking before I was a little apprehensive. However
having enjoyed a brilliant, well organised (down to the smallest detail) week I cannot
understand why I hadn’t done it before! Phil and Anna’s fantastic hiking holidays
will be hard to beat though!
