New Year, new Adventures: Why 2025 is the year to prioritise your well-being

The start of a new year is always a time for fresh beginnings, renewed energy, and a chance to set meaningful goals. As 2025 gets underway, many of us are reflecting on how to live healthier, happier lives. This year, let’s focus on making resolutions that nurture both our physical and mental well-being. From adopting good habits to embracing new experiences, here are some ideas to inspire your goals for the year ahead — and why a hiking holiday might just be the perfect way to kick-start your journey.

Prioritising your physical health in 2025

After the indulgences of the festive season, many of us are eager to get back to a healthier routine. But instead of crash diets or overly ambitious exercise plans, why not aim for sustainable changes that will keep you feeling great all year? Here are some simple yet powerful ways to prioritise your physical health:

  • Get moving: Regular exercise doesn’t have to mean hours in the gym. Hiking, walking, or snowshoeing can be excellent ways to stay active while enjoying the beauty of nature.
  • Eat fresh and local: Focus on wholesome, unprocessed foods that fuel your body. Incorporating local produce, seasonal ingredients, and balanced meals can make a world of difference.
  • Rest and recover: Prioritising sleep is one of the simplest ways to support your overall health. Aim for 7-8 hours per night to recharge your body and mind.

A hiking holiday combines these elements naturally. You’ll spend your days being active in fresh mountain air, enjoy delicious local cuisine, and return to cosy accommodations for a restful night’s sleep — the perfect recipe for physical wellness.

Don’t forget your mental health

As important as physical health is, mental well-being deserves just as much attention. Modern life can often feel overwhelming, and taking intentional steps to care for your mind is essential. Consider these resolutions for better mental health in 2025:

  • Unplug regularly: Limit your screen time and spend more moments offline. Nature offers an unparalleled opportunity to disconnect from digital distractions and reconnect with yourself.
  • Practice mindfulness: Whether through meditation, journaling, or simply being present, mindfulness can reduce stress and improve mental clarity.
  • Try something new: Novel experiences challenge your brain, build confidence, and bring a sense of joy. Why not start the year with an adventure that takes you out of your comfort zone?

Peaks and Passes Hiking VacationA hiking holiday checks all these boxes. Immersing yourself in stunning landscapes, breathing fresh mountain air, and engaging with like-minded travellers create the perfect environment to recharge mentally and emotionally. It’s a gift you can give yourself that lasts far beyond the trip.

My grandfather is from Etxalar. Are there any hikes that go through this village?

Hi Christine, Etxalar is in Navarra in the Baztan region. We used to run a guided trip there called the Western Pyrenees, but haven’t run it since the pandemic. It’s one that we may look to run again in the future, but it won’t be for 2025.
      Happy hiking in 2025,
      Phil

The Castle of Loarre: stone, stories and the making of a kingdom

Rising above the plains of Huesca, the Castle of Loarre is one of Europe’s best-preserved Romanesque fortresses.
