Snowshoeing holiday in the Pyrenees

Next February we are running a guided snowshoeing holiday in the Valle de Tena. We’ve been asked about this lots of times by readers of the blog, so hopefully some of you will be able to come and join us for this advenure!

Snowshoeing in the Pyrenees

Snowshoeing near Portalet

Snowshoeing is brilliant fun and requires no previous experience or technical skills – if you can hike you can snowshoe! We’ll teach you all the techniques you need to know during your stay. It’s a great way of discovering the mountains in winter. The scenery is simply beautiful and the winter really is a magical time to be in the mountains.

The exact routes will depend on the snow conditions but we expect to visit the Portalet area on the French border, the pass of Cotefablo which is between Ordesa and Biescas, the Ordesa Valley and perhaps Somport.

The holiday will run from Sunday 17th February with the first snowshoeing outing on the Monday. We’re leaving the trip quite open so people can join us just for one day (if you live nearby for example), a couple of days or for the whole week. You can either arrive in your own car or we can provide transfers from Zaragoza train station or airport.

If you don’t have your own snowshoes we can organise rental. You only need standard walking boots and poles with snow baskets (we have these if you don’t have the large snow baskets for your own poles).

Accommodation will be in the lovely Hotel Almud in the village of Sallent de Gallego which looks very pretty covered in snow surrounded by high mountains.

If you are interested in joining us, jus drop Phil an email at info@hikepyrenees.co.uk letting us know how many days you’d like to come along for and if you need transfers or not. We’ll email you more details and a quote.

We hope to see some of you next February for some fun in the snow!

Snowshoeing in the sunshine

We had a brilliant snowshoeing holiday early this month, and our group of six intrepid guests had absolutely perfect conditions! It was one of those magical weeks where it had snowed all of the week preceding the trip, and then the day the guests arrived, the sun broke through and we had fantastic weather all week along with great snow underfoot.
