Favourite photos of 2012

Hiking in the Pyrenees

2012’s drawing to a close – it’s been a great year here in the Pyrenees and I thought it would be a good time to show some of our favourite photo’s from this summer – there’s lot’s of photos of our guests so see if you can spot yourself! The photo above was on the way up to Pico La Muga on the French border and the photo below is on the summit.

The dramatic canyons of Ordesa make for some superb hiking. One of my favourite hikes is walking along the ridge of the Ordesa Canyon and then heading over to the nearby Añisclo Canyon for more spectacular views – standing on the edge of two kilometre deep canyons on the same day is pretty special.

I love the way that you can be walking across gentle alpine meadows and then these huge canyons just appear beneath you.

Hiking with Monte Perdido, the Tresoroles and the Tres Marias behind.

Although we usually are walking under blue skies thunderstorms spring out of nowhere – this thundercloud formed right above us out of nowhere one afternoon and soaked us but only for about 20 minutes. It was incredible to watch the cloud build before our eyes.

Of course there’s plenty of good hiking in the Valle de Tena too….

Punta del Pacino is one of our most popular walks with great views on the whle walk – particularly on the summit. From Hotel Almud in Sallent you can do the walk straight from the front door.

Pico Anayet is also a favourite with it’s chains to the summit – they’re not as bad as they look (at least that’s what I tell everybody!)

Summit views from Anayet - makes the chains worthwhile!

Our Refugio Week takes us into the high mountains and some spectacular scenery.

Heading towards the Cuello del Infierno (the neck of hell - yikes!)

One of our most memorable trips of the summer wasn’t hiking at all but a trip to see the Tour de France where we got to see Bradley Wiggins in yellow on the way to winning the Tour.

I hope that gives you a flavour of our summer here in the Pyrenees. Thanks to everyone who came hiking with us last year and we hope to see you back in the Pyrenees again in the future.

Here’s to a great 2013 and happy hiking to you all.

Snowshoeing in the sunshine

Snowshoeing in the sunshine

We had a brilliant snowshoeing holiday early this month, and our group of six intrepid guests had absolutely perfect conditions! It was one of those magical weeks where it had snowed all of the week preceding the trip, and then the day the guests arrived, the sun broke through and we had fantastic weather all week along with great snow underfoot.
