7 night guided walking holiday
- 7 night guided walking holiday in the Pyrenees
- 2 guided walks each day to choose from
- 4* hotel with pool and sauna
- Evening meals in various village restaurants
A Pyrenees guided walking holiday, based in the pretty village of Biescas, exploring one of the most beautiful valleys in the Pyrenees. The Valle de Tena is a spectacular walking area with high peaks towering over wonderful alpine meadows.
There are five days of fully guided walks and each day there will be two routes offered – a lower and a higher level option. The high-level walks will scale some of the great peaks in the area while the easier option will explore the flower-filled meadows and mountain lakes of the valley. You are free to choose whichever route you’d like to join and it’s no problem to switch between the easier and harder walks during the week if you wish.
One option will be a grade 1 or 2 walk at a relaxed pace with plenty of time to soak up the views. These walks will be on good well-graded paths. Walks will be between five to seven hours with three or four hundred metres of ascent. The second option will be a grade 3 or 4 hike usually heading to a peak. The walks will be longer and steeper and some days may have some easy scrambling. These hikes will be six to nine hours each day with seven hundred to one thousand metres of ascent so a good level of fitness is required for these walks.
Biescas is blessed with some great restaurants and the evening meals are a real highlight of this trip. During the week you’ll dine at several of the fantastic restaurants in the village (usually with one meal at the hotel), giving you a great chance to try the local dishes.
This holiday due to run Saturday to Saturday, however the holiday dates may change by one day to Sunday to Sunday, depending on which day the Ryan Air flight from Stansted to Zaragoza runs (that many of our British guests arrive on). Ryan Air release their flight schedules in November and as soon as they release the flights, we will confirm the dates. If your hiking trip is part of a longer Spanish holiday, please do not book non-changeable travel such as trains or hotels before we confirm the dates.
The trips are all available to book now and we can also hold places on the trips for you until the dates are confirmed in November – just drop us an email to info@hikepyrenees.co.uk with the trip you’d like to do, the dates and the number of people if you’d like to do this.
During the week we visit several of the most beautiful areas in the region, each with their own charm. This is a sample itinerary – the exact routes will depend on the weather and what the group would like to achieve. Each day we offer a choice of two guided hikes – a longer and a shorter option. Each day you can decide which walk to join and it’s no problem to switch between the options during the week.
The shorter hikes are at a relaxed pace, with plenty of time to stop and take in the views, take photographs and enjoy the nature. Expect to hike between 9 to 14 km (5.5 to 8.5 miles) and climb 300 to 500 metres (1000 – 1600 ft) during the day. Paths are generally good underfoot with only a few short steeper sections.
The longer hikes are on steeper rougher paths and venture into more high mountain, alpine terrain. Hikes are between 13 to 20 km (8 to 13.5 miles) with between 700 to 1200 metres (2300 to 3900 ft) of ascent each day.
We’ve included the distances, ascents and highest altitude reached for each hike. On some routes, there is a range of distances due to there being different options – usually the guide will decide during the day which option you’ll do depending on how the group is doing.
Saturday – Arrival in Biescas
Arrive in Biescas from Zaragoza – we pick up at either Zaragoza train station (regular trains from Madrid or Barcelona) or Zaragoza airport for the flight from London Stansted. Short briefing to talk through the week and answer any questions you have followed by the evening meal at Tiki’s excellent restaurant in the village.
