We’ve just finished a wonderful week on our Valle de Tena Explorer holiday, sharing some of our favourite corners of the valley with a lovely group of hikers from the UK and the US.
It was one of those weeks when the Pyrenees really begins to feel like summer. We had blue skies and sunshine throughout, and although the temperatures were sometimes a little warmer than ideal for walking, the mountains gave us plenty of ways to cool off. Shaded beech forests, fresh streams, high mountain lakes and the occasional mountain breeze were all very welcome along the way.
Guided hiking in the Valle de Tena
One of the things we love most about the Valle de Tena Explorer is the variety. No two days feel the same. During the week we walked through flower-filled meadows, quiet woodland paths, open valleys, high pastures and rocky mountain landscapes, with wonderful views of the Sierra de Partacua, Peña Foratata, and the peaks around Panticosa and Sallent de Gállego.
The wildflowers were fantastic too. Early summer is always a special time in the Pyrenees, when the meadows are full of colour and the mountains feel wonderfully alive after the long winter. It is one of our favourite times of year to walk in the valley.

Walking among wildflowers in the Spanish Pyrenees
As well as enjoying some of the classic routes in the Spanish Pyrenees, we also explored quieter trails that gave the group a real sense of the local landscape. These are the walks we love to share — beautiful routes, away from the busiest paths, with time to stop, look around and enjoy where you are.
The Valle de Tena is a wonderful place for a guided walking holiday in the Pyrenees, with a mix of dramatic mountain scenery, traditional villages, peaceful woodland and open alpine landscapes. It is this variety that makes the week feel so rich.
Exploring the French Pyrenees from the Valle de Tena
One day took us across the border into the French Pyrenees, where the scenery changes once again. The valleys feel greener, the glacial cirques are enormous, and the views towards the iconic Pic du Midi d’Ossau are always a highlight.
It is always special to experience both sides of the Pyrenees in the same week. Although the French and Spanish mountains are separated by only a short drive, they each have their own character, and the group really enjoyed discovering that contrast.

A Cultural Rest Day in Jaca
Our rest day gave us the chance to spend time in Jaca, one of the most historic towns in the Aragonese Pyrenees. We visited the Romanesque cathedral, explored the impressive citadel, wandered through the old town and finished, as all good rest days should, with a delicious tapas lunch in one of Jaca’s classic restaurants.
We also visited the small Romanesque church of San Juan de Busa, a beautiful 11th-century building surrounded by the peaceful landscapes of the Sobrepuerto area.
Good company, local food and mountain evenings in Biescas
Back in the mountains, the group tackled each day with great enthusiasm and plenty of good humour. There was laughter along the trails, time to enjoy the views, and a lovely relaxed atmosphere throughout the week.
In the evenings, we enjoyed dinners in different restaurants around Biescas, with plenty of local flavours and a chance to chat about the day’s adventures. These moments are always an important part of the holiday — good food, good company, and stories shared after a day in the mountains.
Thank you for joining us in the Valle de Tena
A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for such a fun and memorable week in the Valle de Tena. It was a pleasure to share our home valley with you, and we hope to welcome you back to the Pyrenees again soon.
