Blogging from the Pyrenees
Phil & Anna have been living in the Pyrenees for over 17 years and love the culture, wildlife and mountains here. We run Hike Pyrenees, which organises guided and self guided hiking holidays in the Pyrenees and other areas of Spain. Our blog tells about our adventures hiking, snowshoeing and skiing in the Pyrenees and we hope to explain some of the fascinating flora, fauna and history of the area. We hope you enjoy reading!

French Pyrenees Walking holiday: Following the Pioneers of Pyreneism
Our new French Pyrenees holiday took us on a journey, following in the footsteps of the first Pyreneists, exploring the giant cirques of Gavarnie, Troumouse, Vignemale and up the famous Col du Tourmalet.
The Pyrenees through September
September here is a beautiful month. The villages are winding down after a busy August and we start waking up to fresh crisp mornings. The leaves on the trees start to change colour and the hill sides turn a mixture of orange and red. We’ve even had a dusting of snow…
More snakes in the Pyrenees
Rosie living on the French side of the Pyrenees near Canigou wrote to us recently with a snake identification question. She’d found one in her house and managed to get this picture! It’s a little bit difficult to identify it without seeing its head but we…

Sunny July, hiking in the Pyrenees
Once more we have reached the end of another busy and enjoyable month here in the Pyrenees and we really do need to ask our selves where has this month gone! It’s been fantastic to see familiar faces returning for their 2nd, 3rd or even 4th holiday with us and…
A busy June hiking in the Pyrenees
It’s been a super busy start to the season which is why we’ve been a bit quiet here on the blog page! We hit the ground running (or should we say guiding!) towards the end of May and haven’t stopped. Below is a selection of our favourite…
Ski Touring: winter ascent of Bisaurin Peak (2670m)
I recently did an ascent of Bisaurin on ski’s – a superb peak with brilliant views. It might sound a bit strange, but most of the local skiers will tell you that the ski touring season actually starts in March in the Pyrenees. In March, the avalanche risk…
Climbing Mallo Frechin in Riglos
In the Pyrenees during winter, when it is not possible to rock climb in most of the range because of wet or cold weather, Riglos is a great place to head. And what a nice option!: hundreds of routes, up to 300m long, in a beautiful environment and with fast access…
