We have just finished another wonderful Riglos and Alquézar guided walking holiday, exploring the spectacular landscapes of the Spanish Pre-Pyrenees with Anna, Ailsa, Judith, Mark and Miriam. Blessed with excellent weather throughout the trip, the group enjoyed a fantastic combination of dramatic scenery, fascinating birdlife, beautiful walks and the warm hospitality that makes this corner of Aragón so special.
Walking beneath the Mallos de Riglos
Our adventure began beneath the towering Mallos de Riglos, the enormous red conglomerate cliffs that rise dramatically above the village and attract climbers and birdlife from all over Europe. Walking beneath these gigantic rock walls is always an unforgettable experience, and the conditions this week could not have been better, with clear blue skies and perfect visibility across the surrounding sierras. Griffon vultures were constantly circling overhead, often passing incredibly close to the group as they rode the thermals along the cliffs. We were also delighted to observe Egyptian vultures and several sightings of the magnificent bearded vulture, one of the true icons of the Pyrenees and always a very special bird to encounter.
Vultures, canyons and the landscapes of Alquézar
Later in the week we travelled to the medieval hilltop village of Alquézar, one of the most beautiful villages in Aragón and the perfect base for exploring the extraordinary canyons and barrancos of the Sierra de Guara. Here the scenery changes completely, with limestone cliffs, deep gorges, turquoise rivers and narrow canyon paths creating some of the most spectacular walking in Spain. The group explored several of the classic routes in the area, including trails through the Vero and Mascún canyons, where ancient rock formations, natural arches and dramatic viewpoints constantly revealed new surprises around every corner. The relaxed atmosphere of Alquézar in the evenings was equally memorable, with the group enjoying excellent hotels and some truly superb meals featuring local Aragonese cuisine, good wines and plenty of laughter after each day’s walking.
It was a real pleasure to share this week with Anna, Ailsa, Judith, Mark and Miriam, whose enthusiasm and good humour made the trip especially enjoyable from beginning to end. Thank you all for being such fantastic company throughout the week. We hope you left with many happy memories of Riglos, Alquézar and the incredible landscapes of the Spanish Pre-Pyrenees, and we very much hope to welcome you back to the Pyrenees again in the future.

With cooler temperatures and excellent conditions for walking and wildlife observation, it is a fantastic season to discover Riglos and Alquézar.
