Our summer season has come to an end and what a great summer it has been! We’ve welcomed more hikers than ever to the Pyrenees and the Picos de Europa.
Thanks to all of you who have hiked with us this year and made this summer such a success. We’ve had a great time showing you all these wonderful mountains. We all love this area and feel privileged to live and work here.
I’d like to give a huge thanks to the Hike Pyrenees team. Most of you will know our guiding team of David, Sara, Pablo and Curro who do a fantastic job looking after you all in the mountains. But also essential to our team are Pablo our driver and Teresa and Rosa in the office who do so much hard work behind the scenes to make everything run smoothly.
I have to say that we’ve been rushed off our feet for most of the summer and I haven’t had a chance to update the blog for ages, so below I’ve put a quick photo summary of the season. I hope you see some photos of your favourite hikes with us.
We hope you all enjoyed your hikes with us and we look forward to seeing you again in the future. Our summer 2025 program is already published, or join us this winter for our snowshoeing holiday on the 2-9 February.
The season started early this year with our Beceite Spring Hiker holiday in April. This was a new itinerray for us and I was delighted with the hikes. It’s a wonderful area, south of Zaragoza and has great weather for early season hiking. The mountains aren’t that high but the scenery is stunning.
On the rest day we visited an olive oil farm and made a ‘clotxa’ which is a loaf of bread stuffed with roasted sardines, tomatoes and garlic – absolutely delicious! We followed this with a barbeque in a vineyard and watched the sunset, sipping wine surrounded by the vines.

Next up was another new itinerary in the Catalan Pyrenees which we visited in May. After a very warm winter in the Pyrenees, we had all of the winter’s snow in May and we encountered quite wintery conditions which made the mountains very dramatic. The group had a great time exploring the Cerdanya valley which is a stunning area. The guides are all looking forward to heading back there this May.
Our Picos de Europa holidays are always popular and this year we had three trips there. Its jagged limestone peaks rising out of idyllic pastures make for brilliant hiking. Always a favourite is the day we head up the Fuente De cable car – the views from the top are magnificent. If you’d like to come to the Picos next summer, be quick – the June trip is already nearly full!
The Valle de Tena is our home and we had lots of guests here this summer on our Valle de Tena Explorer, Lakes & Valleys and Peaks & Passes guided holidays. It really is a hikers paradise here with dozens of routes through the alpine meadows and rocky peaks. June was particularly spectacular this year as we had a lot of rain (and snow!) in May so the meadows were a brilliant green and the wildflowers simply stunning.
The kilometre deep canyons of the Ordesa National Park are always awe inspiring to hike in and this summer was no different. In July in particular, the Ordesa Valley was superb with the south facing slopes covered in yellow gorse and the meadows full of thousands of iris.
With the late season snow this year, crampons and ice axes were needed for our Refugio Week. Conditions were perfect for the crossing over the Col de Tebbarai – it was a stunning days hiking.
Hugely impressed after the Ordesa week as we have been with our previous trips with Hike Pyrenees.
Nothing to fault and everything to praise, particularly the fantastic knowledgeable and entertaining guides.
A huge thank you to the girls behind the scenes in the office who help make all these trips run as smoothly as they do. Wonderful team all round.
(Great walking too!)
