Blogging from the Pyrenees
Phil & Anna have been living in the Pyrenees for over 17 years and love the culture, wildlife and mountains here. We run Hike Pyrenees, which organises guided and self guided hiking holidays in the Pyrenees and other areas of Spain. Our blog tells about our adventures hiking, snowshoeing and skiing in the Pyrenees and we hope to explain some of the fascinating flora, fauna and history of the area. We hope you enjoy reading!

French Pyrenees Walking holiday: Following the Pioneers of Pyreneism
Our new French Pyrenees holiday took us on a journey, following in the footsteps of the first Pyreneists, exploring the giant cirques of Gavarnie, Troumouse, Vignemale and up the famous Col du Tourmalet.
Walking in Valencia
Over the Easter holidays we headed south to the beach and do some walking. We stayed in Oliva – just north of Denia. Really nice beach (which we took a fantastic horseride down) and some good walking with wonderful spring flowers nearby. The Penyal d’Ifrac is a 332m…
Village Life in Spring
Whilst Phil was away this weekend I discovered village life in Spring. I enjoyed my first Calçotado in the village of Sardas on Saturday. Sunday I joined the Sabiñanigo Mountain Club on a relaxing walk between the villages of Mianos, Artieda and Ruesta. I completed my…
Griffons in the snow
March 8th is women´s day in Spain and we celebrated by taking a relaxing walk in the snow. Along our trail we saw Griffon Vultures, Great Tits, Long-tailed Tits, Red Kites and pine processionary caterpillar nests. After all the wind and snow we´ve had recently here…
Snow shoeing with the walking club
Fantastic snow shoeing trip today with the Sabinanigo walking club to Pic l’Iou just over the border in France. Hoy hemos hecho una excursion muy bonita con raquetas con el club de montaña Sabinanigo. Beautiful weather again and being the first weekend the…
Hitting the (nursery) slopes
Thursday saw us out on the slopes of Formigal. Fabulous day for it – clear blue skies once again, great snow conditions and being a weekday the slopes were empty. Kerry hasn’t skied before so Anna gave her a crash course – sometimes literally!…
Kerry’s first snowshoeing adventure
Our friend Kerry has come over for a half term holiday and yesterday we took her on her first snowshoeing outing. Lots of snow last week but blue skies and sunshine everyday this week so we had perfect conditions. We took a route from the border to a peak called…
A trip to the alps
Last week was spent in Gran Bornard in the French Alps on a snow shoeing training course. Great location in a valley with mainly nordic skiing and snow shoeing. Great weather with sunshine each day – absolutely freezing before the sun came over the mountains…
A night at Camp Nou
A visit to Barcelona last weekend happily coincided with a Barcelona home match so I visited Camp Nou for the first time. What a stadium – I’ve been to Old Trafford several times and thought that was big but the 98,000 seater Camp Nou is vast. Up in the…
