Quebrantahuesos 2018 Bike Race – still time to sign up!

The Quebrantahuesos (bone-crusher!) bike race is on the 23rd June this year and there’s still time to sign up with entries closing on Jan 10th. It’s one of the biggest cycle events in Europe with over 10,000 cyclists competing over the weekend.

If you fancy a challenge put your name down for this superb bike race but at 200km and 3500 metres of ascent make sure you get plenty of training in beforehand! The route is fantastic passing over the Pyrenees via the Somport pass into France, then over the Col de Marie Blanc and then returning into Spain over the Portalet pass into the Valle de Tena. The scenery is stunning.

If the distance seems a bit much (and it does to me!) then there is also the Treppariscos race which is 85km with 1500 metres of ascent and is a much more relaxed affair – this is the race I do each year.

The atmosphere is fantastic over the weekend with so many cyclists about. It’s an really well run event with regular food and drink stops on the way round and at the end of the race there is a competitors area with free beer and the largest paella you’ll ever see! Of course there’s also a bike fair with all the big brands there with the latest kit.

Quebrantahuesos Bike Race - Paella

There are about 5 huge paellas for the competitors at the end of the race.

Places fo rthe Treppariscos event are fairly easy to get but the main Quebrantahuesos race is always heavily subscribed so there is a raffle for places. If you are unlucky the first two years you apply then you are guaranteed a place on your third application.

To enetr the race first register for the raffle (or ‘sorteo’ in Spanish) which costs 4€. You need to do this before the 10th Jan so get your skates on. Mid Jan you’ll be informed if you’ve a place or not and if you’ve been lucky you can complete your subscription process. The race costs 75€ and a race maillot is included in the price.

It’s one of the best cycle events in Spain so why not come over and give it a try!

To register visit the Qubrantahuesos website (English version available).

UPDATE: We have 10 guaranteed places for Quebrantahuesos 2018 and are running a training camp with race entry. Visit our website for all of the details.
