The peaks, lakes and meadows of the Valle de Tena make for a walker’s paradise with a huge choice of routes at all levels. There are some spectacular summits to conquer and flower filled meadows in which you can relax and take in the scenary. Our self guided walking holidays are designed to help you enjoy the Pyrenees on your own. We take the hard work out of organising your holiday by arranging accommodation, supplying route directions, maps, weather forecasts and picnic lunches.Arrive on whichever day you like and stay for as many nights as you want – minimum stay 3 nights. Although the walking is close by you’ll need a car to make the most of your time in the Pyrenees. Most of our guests hire cars from Barcelona or Zaragoza – ask for a quote.
We’ve got route cards for all of the best walks in the valley. There’s a huge choice of walks of all distances ranging from gentle walks in alpine meadows to long days in the high mountains. As well as easy to follow directions for each walk we give accurate distances and ascents and let you know what the ground is like underfoot. We’re around during the week to offer advice on which walks would suit you best and answer any of your questions. We live in the area year round and walk these routes regularly with groups so you can be confident that our route cards will always be up to date and accurate.
We’ve route descriptions for dozens of walks in the area. Options range from short strolls to long days in the high mountains. Here’s a few suggestions.
Ibon de Piedrafita – grade 1
Nestled in the meadows under the cliffs of the Sierra de Partacua lies the Ibon de Piedrafita. A gentle climb takes us out of the woodland for superb views across the Valle de Tena.
Villages of the Serrablo – grade 1
A walk linking the medieval villages of the Serrablo. These pretty villages are famous for their 11th century romanesque churches. We walk through gentle woodland with views up the Valle de Tena and have a picnic lunch at the semi abandoned village of Susín which has just one remaining inhabitant!
Punta del Pacino – grade 2
A beautiful ascent through woodland and meadows to the peak of Punta del Pacino. Its position at the centre of the valley gives fabulous panoramic views of the Valle De Tena and surrounding peaks.
Ordesa Valley – Faja de Pelay – grade 3
A steep climb rewarded with a bird’s eye view of the valley. A superb path then contours around the cliffs before dropping to the valley floor –
Ibones de Arriel – grade 3
Some of the most beautiful lake landscapes in the Pyrenees can be found at Ibones de Arriel. The four lakes, lying at different heights, are surrounded by steep granite peaks with Pico Palas taking pride of place.
Pico Anayet (2545m) – grade 4
Set on a high plateau of peaty grasslands you’ll find Ibon de Anayet with fantastic views across the lake to Pic Midi d’Ossau. Either relax with a picnic and take in the magnificent views. Alternatively tackle the steep and exciting Pico Anayet or the slightly tamer, but with equally impressive views, Vertice de Anayet.
Garmo Negro (3066m) – grade 4
Overlooking Panticosa this three thousander makes for an excellent finale to the week. Superb summit views along the Pyrenees chain. An optional side trip takes us on an excellent scramble along a ridge to the summit of Argulas
