We’ve two new guided walking holidays for 2024 – the Beceite Spring Hiker (7-14th April) and the Catalan Pyrenees (18-25th May).
Both are in fabulous hiking areas where we’ve run self-guided and private group trips for a number of years and are now offering as standard guided trips. Both trips are dual-level, with two hikes offered each day – a longer and a shorter option.
Beceite – an undiscovered gem
The Passes of Beceite is a mountain range in south Aragon, bordering Catalunya and Valencia, with spectacular limestone and conglomerate canyons and cliffs. Although a relatively unknown area, it’s a personal favourite of mine with stunning scenery and beautiful villages and I can’t recommend the area enough. Being further south, the area has excellent early-season hiking weather and our holiday there is on the 7-14 April 2024.
Our base for this trip is La Fabrica de Solfa, a wonderfully converted old paper mill with a fantastic restaurant. As the hotel is quite small, we’ll also be using some beautiful apartments very close to the hotel, with meals still taken at the hotel.
Picasso stayed two summers in nearby Horta De Joan and he started to develop his cubist style there. On our rest day, we’ll visit the fascinating Picasso Museum there, and also an olive grove where we will learn about the olive oil making process, have an olive oil tasting and learn how to make a clotxa – a typical shepherd’s dish where the meal is stuffed inside a loaf of bread.
Dates: 7-14 April 2024

Hike in the Catalan Pyrenees
Barcelona transfers
This trip explores the beautiful area of Cerdanya, where you’ll stay at the lovely Hotel Muntayna which has a lovely spa and pool. The Cerdanya region is flanked to the south by the high limestone cliffs of the Sierra de Cadi and to the north by the mountains that make up the French and Andorran border. Hikes will be on both the Spanish and French side of the range, as well as on the Andorran border and there’s plenty of variety to the routes.
We’ll find dozens of pretty mountain lakes hidden in the granite mountains along the border, and several of the routes will hike around these pretty lakes. My favourites are the lakes around the Bulloses area where you pass over ten lakes during the day, the higher ones lying under the intimidating summit of Pic Carlit.
The hotel is the perfect base from which to enjoy the mountains. Each day a visit to the hotel’s spa is included so you can rest any aching legs in the jacuzzi which has an incredible view. The breakfast buffets are superb with lots of fresh fruit, cold meats and local cheeses, as well as scrambled eggs and sausages. Much of the fruit, vegetables and salad used in the hotel’s restaurant are grown in the hotel’s extensive vegetable gardens and greenhouses, which we’ll have a guided tour of on our rest day.
Lying so close to the French border, Cerdanya has a fascinating history which we’ll discover on a guided walking tour of the region’s capital, Puigcerda. We’ll visit the bell tower and learn why the little town of Llivia that we can see in the distance has ended up a Spanish enclave, completely surrounded by France.
Transfers for this trip will be from Barcelona, making access very easy. We pick up from both the airport or Barcelona Sants train station which is quite central.
