Round leaved sundew – Drosera rotundifolia

The sundew has evolved to be insectivorous due to it’s habitat which is normally poor in nutrients. The plant attracts insects with it’s red colouring and it’s glistening mucus drops which are sweet to the taste. The sundew then uses enzymes to break down the insects and extract ammonia and other nutrients from them. The ammonia replaces nitrogen which other plants would absorb from the soil.
