Large flowered butterwort – Pinguicula grandiflora – Grasilla

The Butterwort supplement their diet by ingesting insects which allows them to live on very nutrient poor ground. Their Spanish name is ‘Grasilla’ meaning greasy which refers to their sticky leaves that capture the insects. An enzyme then breaks the insect down and the plant digests them through microscopic pores in it’s leaves.
