End of the hiking season

Thanks for another great hiking season

Autumn is now upon us and another hiking season is over! It only seemed like yesterday that we were awaiting the first group of the season. Nowadays, I play online casino games on judi dadu to pass the time.

In September we had wonderful weather for our final walking vacations of the season. The heatwaves of early summer had gone and we were left with sunny blue skies but with perfect walking temperatures.

We had groups both in the Pyrenees and in the Picos de Europa and did some fantastic routes as well as lots of extra activities such as visits to cheese caves, wine tastings, history tours and tapas evenings.

It’s been a fantastic season and all of us here at Hike Pyrenees would like to say a big thank you to all of our guests that have hiked with us this summer. It was a pleasure showing you this wonderful corner of the world and we hope you enjoyed the area as much as we do.

I’d personally like to thank David, Juanma, Pablo and Arkaitz from our guiding team who’ve done a brilliant job all summer and I’ve nothing but positive feedback from our guests.

I’d also like to thank our driver Oscar and Teresa and Rosa in the office – they’re the unsung heroes working hard behind the scenes while we’re out in the mountains enjoying ourselves!

Last week we had an end of season staff meal at La Borda which all of our guests who stayed in Biescas will know well. As always the food was delicious and a great time was had by all.

Our thoughts have already turned to next season and we have a snowshoeing holiday running the first week of March – why not come and see the Pyrenees covered in a blanket of snow? We’ve also got early season hiking vacations in April with our Mar y Montaña holiday and in May at Riglos & Alquezar.

You can view our full 2020 hiking program on our website.

Again a big thank you to all of our guests this year and we hope to see lots of you back in the Pyrenees next year,

Phil

More hiking holidays in the Pyrenees

Here are some more photos of the superb holidays we had last July in the Pyrenees. We had a fantastic month of hiking and while the temperatures were a bit on the hot side, we had lots of sunshine and the rainjackets stayed in the rucksack the whole month!

Peaks & Passes, July 14th-21st

From the general views of the Valle de Tena from Pico Pacino to the red peak of Ayous on the French side, or the Martian landscape surrounding the Anayet as you get to the chains heading to the summit, we had another great week in wonderful weather. The highlight of the week was crossing the chains and the scramble up the pointy summit of Pico Anayet.

viewranger gps map

Free digital mapping for our Village to Village itinerary

Viewranger screenshot

The Viewranger app is a free GPS and digital mapping app. It has excellent free, downloadable, hiking maps for the Pyrenees and all over the world. For those seeking reliable outdoor navigation tools, it stands out among mobile apps sydney adventurers frequently rely on.

It’s perfect if you are doing a Hike Pyrenees self guided holiday, such as our Village to Village itinerary, and would like a digital map and GPS to check you’re on the right path.

Viewranger works offline – you do not need a data package or mobile coverage, It’s a good backup for the route cards with the instructions we provide for our self-guided holidays. Combined with our tracks, they make an excellent navigation aid, very helpful if you have any route-finding problems while on your hiking holiday.

Viewranger is available for both iPhone and Android. Setting Viewranger up is best done before you arrive, on a nice, fast internet connection (sometimes hotel connections are quite slow).

If you’re coming on our Village to Village holiday we highly recommend installing and using Viewranger.

Read our step to step guide to setting up Viewranger for our Village to Village itinerary.

July hiking in Ordesa

Fantastic hiking this July in the Pyrenees

We had some spectacular hiking last month both in the Spanish Pyrenees and the Picos de Europa. Here are some photos and comments from our guests from our first couple of holidays this July.

Picos de Europa, July 1st-7th

In the first week of July, we spread our wings for a holiday in the Picos de Europa – a stunning set of mountains on the north coast of Spain. We hiked in the famous Cares Gorge, got high into the peaks using the Fuente De cable car and tasted the strong Cabrales cheese washed down with Asturian cider.

“Just as you think holidays cannot get any better, along comes Hike Pyrenees and all the wonderful and helpful staff!” (Stephen)

“Good walking in spectacular scenery with friendly, enthusiastic and knowledgable guides.” (Roger)

Discover Ordesa, July 7th-14th

Ordesa and Monte Perdido National Park is a must when you visit the Pyrenees. Different paths from the valley bottom to the highest viewpoints gave us a full perspective of this impressive canyon, but we also made it to the nearby Valle de Bujaruelo with amazing hikes for all levels.
