Village to Village

7 night guided hotel to hotel walking holiday

Hotel to hotel walking along the length of the Valle de Tena, staying at different villages during the week. We transport your luggage each day meaning you just have to walk with a small daypack.

A wonderful route with fantastic views throughout the week and a real sense of journey as you head up the valley. You’ll stay at small traditional Pyrenean villages with narrow winding streets and stone houses centred around  medieval churches.

Mid level walking with longer options

The walks cover a reasonable distance with 10km to 14km walked each day. However the routes are on good paths and ascents are not steep (apart from the optional longer routes from Panticosa and Sallent de Gallego).

There are 6 days guided walking but with two days spent at both Panticosa and Sallent de Gallego you also have the option of taking using one of these as a rest day.

On two days we’ll offer a choice of two routes with longer options that cover 19km and get into steep high mountain terrain.

All walks are fully guided by qualified and knowledgeable guides and we transfer your bags between hotels meaning that you just walk with a day pack.

Accommodation

Hotels are superb throughout the week, in particular the hotels in Sallent de Gallego and Sandinies are full of character.

Hotel Almud (Sallent de Gallego)

Charming hotel in the centre of the picturesque village of Sallent de Gállego. Fantastically decorated with a lovely lounge and dining area and 11 beautifully furnished rooms. Excellent evening meals.

Casa Pelentos (Sandinies)

It’s hard to think of a more tranquil place to stay than the tiny village of Sandinies. It’s stone buildings all have fantastic views over the valley. Another charming and friendly hotel hotel with just 7 rooms and a renowned restaurant. Please note Casa Pelentos is closed in May and during this month alternative accommodation will be used.

Hotel Tierra de Biescas (Biescas)

Your base for the first and final nights. Excellent 4* hotel with outdoor and indoor pool and sauna all set in lovely grounds which is a great place to relax. Read more about Hotel Tierra de Biescas.

Hotel Casa Morlans (Panticosa)

Friendly, family run hotel in the centre of the village. The two star hotel has 25 rooms with a mixture of twins, doubles and triples. Rooms at the back of the hotel have balconies with mountain views. All rooms have en-suite bathrooms with toilet and shower. Read more about Hotel Casa Morlans.

Itinerary & Transfers

Transfers are to and from Zaragoza airport or trains station on the Sunday evening. For more information about flights and trains see our getting here page.

Sunday - Biescas

Arrive in Biescas spending the night at the 4* Hotel Tierra de Biescas. Briefing in the evening  about the week ahead, going over the route and giving you a chance to ask any questions.

Monday - Biescas to Panticosa

Heading north we pass under the cliffs of the Sierra de Tendeñera and see the valley open up before you. The route’s full of history as we pass a dolmen, the scenic church of Santa Elena and bunkers built by Franco to defend against invasion through the Pyrenees. Spend the night at Hotel Casa Morlans.
Distance: 11km, ascent: 400m

Tuesday - Circular route from Panticosa

Today you have a choice of two circular routes. The shorter option passes through lovely woodland into the meadows of the Valle la Ripera. The longer option passes up a valley, over a 2000 metre col and back down to Panticosa past a beautiful mountain lake. Second night at Hotel Casa Morlans.
Shorter option: distance: 11km, ascent: 400m
Longer option: distance: 19km, ascent: 1100m

Wednesday - Panticosa to Sallent de Gállego

Continuing our journey we head into the northern half of the valley passing through Lanuza - a village that was abandoned and then re-inhabited. An easier day that can be lengthened by an optional side trip to a viewpoint above Lanuza. Night at Hotel Almud.
Direct route: distance: 10km, ascent: 200m
With extension: distance: 16km, ascent: 800m

Thursday - Walk from Sallent de Gállego

Hike along the beautiful Rio Aguas Limpias - the river of clean water. A choice of two routes with the option of a leisurely day walking to a lovely picnic spot. Alternatively head higher to a series of lakes set amongst spectacular mountain scenery. Second night at Hotel Almud.
Shorter option: distance: 14km, ascent: 450m
Longer option: distance: 19km, ascent: 900m

Friday - Sallent de Gállego to Sandiniés

Today we cross over to the western side of the valley and head south to the peak of Punta del Pacino (1965m) for panoramic views across the valley. Descend to the tiny village of Sandiniés and spend the night at Casa Pelentos.
Distance: 13km, ascent: 750m

Saturday - Sandiniés to Piedrafita

Pass through the woods of Betato before climbing through meadows to the lake of Ibon de Piedrafita nestled under the vast cliffs of the Sierra de Partacua. The route finishes at the village of Piedrafita where you’ll be picked up for a short transfer to Biescas where you’ll spend the night at Hotel Tierra de Biescas.
Distance: 14km, ascent 400m

Sunday - Biescas

Final day spent in Biescas before departing for your homeward journey.
