Aragon was an important Iberian kingdom and the area is steeped in history. The monastery of San Juan de la Peña dates back to the 10th century, holds the tombs of several early Aragonese kings and and is fantastically positioned under an overhanging cliff.
Built to defend against Moorish invasions Loarre Castle comes from another period in Aragon’s history. Built high on a hillside with commanding views over the area Loarre found more recent fame as a setting for the film Kingdom of Heaven.
