Our Bases

We use four bases - the villages of Panticosa and Biescas in the Valle de Tena, Torla for our Discover Ordesa holidays and Jaca for those learning Spanish.

Panticosa

The village is centred around a 13th century cathedral, with narrow streets winding around traditional stone buildings. Set in the heart of the Valle de Tena, Panticosa is a great base from which to explore this walking region. There are several bars and restaurants, as well as a few shops and a small supermarket selling the necessities.

The village has a municipal outdoor pool which is open in July and August and an indoor pool open the rest of the year. The indoor pool also has a steam room and sauna in which you can relax tired muscles.

Torla & The Ordesa National Park

Our Discover Ordesa holidays are based in Torla - an ideal location from which to explore the Park.

A pretty village with the cliffs of Ordesa as a backdrop, Torla has bars, restaurants, shops and a small supermarket. The Ordesa Hotel is a 15 minute walk from the village centre.

A UNESCO World Heritage Site, The Ordesa National Park contains some of the most magnificent scenery in Europe. In the glacial valley of Ordesa, thousand metre cliffs rise around you and the highest peak of the region - Monte Perdido - is in view at the head of the valley.

Famous for it’s birds of prey the park is one of the few remaining homes of the lammergeier - one of the largest vultures in Europe.  We often see this magnificent bird on our walks in the park.

Wild flowers are another highlight of the park with iris, lilies, butterworts and saxigrages all abundant.

All of our walking holidays visit the Ordesa National Park for at least one day.

Biescas

At the southern end of the Valle de Tena Biescas is perfectly positioned to reach several excellent and diverse walking areas including the Ordesa National Park.

At the heart of the village is the plaza - centre of every Spanish village. Surrounding the plaza are several lively bars, cafe´s and restaurants. There is a small range of shops and all of the amenities you’ll need.

Overlooking Biescas are two medieval churches - one on each side of the Rio Gallego which runs through the middle of the village.

Jaca

The original capital of Aragon and the seat for the early kings of the region. Jaca’s old town has a lively atmosphere and it’s winding streets are a great place to wander, browsing the shops and sampling tapas and local wines.

Jaca’s history is plain to see in the town’s architecture and as you wander round the sixteenth century five sided citadela and eleventh century Romanesque cathedral.

We visit Jaca on the rest days of our holidays based in Panticosa or Biescas.
