First outing on the snow

The first big snowfall of the year has arrived and Anna and I couldn’t wait to get out on the snowshoes.  After a few cloudy, snowy days the weathers cleared and we’ve wonderful blue skies. We headed over the Somport pass (north of Jaca) jus over the border into France.

Fantastic views of the border peaks and down into the Aspe Valley. Surprisingly deep snow – thigh deep in places. Made for slow going breaking a trail through the powder and the ground was pretty steep at times. Great fun making virgin tracks in the snow though.

Passed a playful group of sarrios that we watched for ages jumping about in the snow and digging down to nibble on the gorse bushes buried under the snow. Anna captured a great picture (below) of a Sarrio in mid-leap.

Great day and a good start to the snow shoeing season.
